Clear Channel Radio’s Total Traffic Network Now in 95 North American Markets for Navigation-Equipped Vehicles and Devices
Addition of 15 New Markets Drive Population Coverage of CCTTN to Over 200 Million People
SAN ANTONIO – August 18, 2008 – Clear Channel Radio’s Total Traffic Network (CCTTN) today announced an expansion to its delivery of real-time traffic data over RDS-TMC (Radio Data System Traffic Message Channel) for navigation-equipped vehicles and devices that bring the total number of North American markets served to 95. The 15 additional markets increase the total population coverage of CCTTN to over 200 million people in the country. This expanded coverage is made available to existing subscribers without additional charge.
“Our real-time traffic service has seen an explosion in momentum this year with paid subscribers to the service reaching a milestone of 500,000, providing traffic info to Volvo models, Mio Technology expanding their relationship with us, ASUS arming their first PND with our data – and now our expansion into 15 more markets,” said Jeff Littlejohn, Executive Vice President of Distribution Development for Clear Channel Radio. “It’s rewarding to know that people living in or driving through these newly added markets will be able to experience our service and enjoy a more predictable ride.”
The additional markets include Binghamton, NY; Charleston, SC; El Paso, TX; Grand Rapids, MI; Honolulu, HI; Melbourne, FL; Mobile, AL; Modesto, CA; Oklahoma City, OK; Panama City, FL; Pensacola, FL; Spokane, WA; Stockton, CA; Tallahassee, FL; and Tuscaloosa, AL.
In late 2007, 10 markets were added to CCTTN’s total coverage area. Since that time, a number of major announcements have been made, including a multi-year agreement with Volvo, a relationship expansion with Mio Technologies, half a million people being signed up for the company’s real-time traffic service, and ASUS using CCTTN data to introduce their first portable navigation device.
Driver’s using CCTTN’s real-time traffic data will benefit from the accuracy and reliability of the network, consisting of traffic cameras, imbedded speed sensors, police scanners and mobile reporters. The company delivers real-time traffic data via in-car (BMW, MINI USA, and Volvo all offer TTN as a standard, subscription-free service) or portable navigation systems (ASUS, Garmin, TomTom, Navigon, Mio Technology, Delphi, Kenwood, Clarion, Harmon Kardon, Panasonic, Siemens, Cobra Electronics and others), broadcast media, wireless and Internet-based services.
